Yet Another Cataract Surgery Camp in Mullaithivu on 15-16 Nov

We are happy to inform that yet another cataract surgery camp, sponsored by London Shri Kanagathurkkai Amman Temple (Ealing Amman Temple) by raising funds from the devotees of the temple and organised by Assist RR, was successfully completed on Sunday, 16/11/14 in Mullaithivu. Surgeon, Dr Malaravan, attached to Jaffna Teaching Hospital, carried out surgeries to nearly 102 patients. The local eye doctor asked us to convey the gratitude of the local people to the donors and organisers. Doctors from Vanni and Vision 2020 have informed Assist RR that there are thousands of needy patients in the North and East, who are still on their waiting lists and would benefit from these surgery camps because many can’t afford to pay for the lens and consumables needed for the surgery. Surgeon, Dr Malaravan has volunteered to perform surgery camps every month in the North. Assist RR will endeavour to find sponsors and support this on going project. Assist RR and people of Mullaithivu are indebted to Dr Malaravan for his selfless service to the vulnerable and needy patients in the North. Assist RR also wish to express its gratitude to the devotees of London Ealing Amman temple for their financial support for this camp. Finally, we would like to thank Vision 2020, in particular Dr Asela Abeydeera, for their continued support in organising surgery camps in the East and North of Sri Lanka.
